Sketches For Summer (R)

What I enjoy listening to often changes with the seasons and on a hot summer’s day (on the occasions when we are blessed to have one in Scotland) I have a lot of go to records I have amassed over the years that get dug out.

What are summer sounds? What makes music “summery”? This has long fascinated me and is of course a personal and subjective thing. Some music is intrinsically “summery”, particularly if it originates from tropical climes but this mix while including some tropical sounds is an attempt to put many disparate forms together that perhaps conjure up the mood of a lazy and sultry summer evening.

These 90 minutes span the 1950s right up to the present day taking in music from Peru to Port Glasgow.
